When Fast Food is your Only Option – Try This

When Fast Food is your Only Option – Try This

Well, first of all need I say that there has to be another option besides fast food. Grab a bag of salad at the supermarket and keep in your fridge for times like this. But I know, convenient and cheap, that's why America's health is suffering. If you must eat fast food here a few tips to help you decide for the healthiest option available.

First of all, skip the fries. Many fast food franchises offer a healthier option than fried potatoes, like fresh fruit or a salad. It's up to you to choose this option and skip the fries!

Choose the grilled chicken. Chicken is a lean meat but when you add all that breading and fat, it's really not much better than the burger. So, if you want to stay health, and have to eat fast food, make the smarter choice.

Order a kid's meal or the smaller size. There is really is no need to super-size everything. In the end, you will be supersizing yourself as well. If you have to eat fast food, limit the portions at least.

Fast food deli-style restaurants have options that lower in calories and fat. You can lots of veggies and put it on a whole wheat wrap. Go deli and choose healthier options.

Choose a healthy snack before you hit the road. If you will be driving for a while, bring along a piece of fruit or something healthy to snack on. That way you won't have the urge to pull over and buy fast food.

Curb those cravings before they hit by having healthy snacks with you, in your car or at your office. Drink plenty of water too. Quench your thirst with water. Water is what your body needs, not a sugary caffeinated drink.

Try the local supermarket for lunch on the go instead of a fast food chain. Most major markets have a deli and offer lots of options like pre-cut fruits and veggies, yogurt, salads and more.

And, of course, always add a salad. Even if you don't go for the full salad dinner you can add a side salad in most places. That way you will be getting some nutrients with your meal.

Listen to your body and take care of yourself. As a travel nurse or healthcare professional you know the importance of proper diet, rest and exercise. So, practice what you preach and make the healthy and smart choices in your everyday life so you can stay healthy and provide your patients the care they deserve and desire.
